Every photographer has his own favourite techniques. Since the same effect can be achieved in Photoshop in at least 20 different ways the range of possibilities is almost unlimited. Typically there will be as many different opinions and recommendations as photographers. Surprisingly Photoshop has one tool that seems to be commonly highly prised by almost any experienced digital artist - the Curves.
The tool is extremely powerful and you can use it to completely transform your work by improving contrast, distribution light and shadow. The Curves tool can be even used to work with color in your photos! To help you get your head around the Curves tool I have prepared an ebook where you can quickly find the most important principles and start applying them in your own work immediately.
Download my free ebook and find out how to use black & white point sliders to increase contrast, what is “S” curve and how to perform targeted adjustments. I suggest keeping it at hand and use as a reference whenever you need a bit of help while performing adjustments in Photoshop with the Curves Tool.
The animation illustrates original image versus edited version (retouch with Dodge & Burn technique + Luminosity Adjustments with Curves Tool). The Gel Color Effect can be applied as next stage of the edit.
